“35mm Building” office building in Seoul

Playing with light and shade

Designed for a cameraman, this new office building in Seoul pays tribute to the significance of the 35 mm film from which it takes its name. The facade of the four-storey building is dominated by columns sloping diagonally inwards, the proportions of which vary to create a dynamic feeling of movement.

On the ground floor, the black ultra-high performance concrete provides a solid basis that is directly perceptible to the touch. On the upper floors, the subtle play between light and dark is captured in the rippled texture of the StoSignature Fine 10 render, which looks delicate but was in fact achieved through repeated sanding. The design aims to create a space that resonates with the depth of light and shade evocative of black and white films.

The shape of the building follows existing sight lines and complies with applicable distance requirements. The result is a narrow construction on a striking corner plot cleverly brought to life with the StoVentec R facade insulation system.
