Hamburg's new ‘Sportlerhaus’ with ceramic facade
Teamplay down at the harbour
Well thought-out in terms of sport – from the design and floor plans to the ceramic facade
The ‘Sportlerhaus’ (Sports House) at Hamburg's Baakenhafen was born from a project idea by sports-loving families. Spine Architects won the previous design competition and implemented the eight-storey residential building with commercial space and a café. The concept, which was born out of the idea of team play, is characterised on the one hand by the implementation of the sporting concept in the floor plans. The facade is equally well thought-out, with three-dimensional ceramic elements that reinterpret Hamburg's brick tradition. Watch the film to find out how well this challenging project ultimately worked out thanks to passion, precision, and teamwork.
That's how team play works
Sporting spirit as a distinguishing feature
The building embraces the spirit of sport and addresses the concept of team play in various ways: through the room layout, the offensive and defensive character of the floor plans, the organisation of the interior spaces and the exterior appearance. In terms of its materiality, the facade references the reflective water surfaces of the surrounding harbour basins and continues their character in the architecture.
